Management Council Bios

Allan Fineblit, Chair

Allan Fineblit is the chief operating officer and a lawyer with Thompson, Dorfman, Sweatman, where he specializes in the regulation of professionals, governance, employment law, professional ethics, and dispute resolution. He has previously served as the chief executive officer of the Law Society of Manitoba. He was designated as queen’s counsel in 1998 and is the recipient of the Manitoba Bar Association President’s Award. Fineblit has a bachelor of arts and bachelor of laws from the University of Manitoba, and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1974. He is a member of the Manitoba Blue Cross board of directors and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba Executive Committee.

Allan is appointed a member of the Management Council and Chair for a period of three years effective December 17, 2019.

 

 
Roberta Campbell

Roberta L. Campbell is a lawyer and founding partner of Campbell Gunn Inness Seib, where she specializes in criminal law. She has a bachelor of arts with a focus on economics and a bachelor of law from the University of Manitoba. She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1995. Campbell served as the founding member and past chair of the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted, vice-president of the Manitoba Criminal Trial Lawyers Association and president of the Law Society of Manitoba.

Roberta is appointed a member of the Management Council for a period of two years effective December 17, 2019.

 

 

Renwick DaCosta

Renwick DaCosta is a senior architect with Wawanesa Insurance and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a master of business administration and a bachelor of computer science (honours). He has over 30 years experience in the IT industry and has assisted many companies redesign and manage their IT infrastructures (Wawanesa, MTS, Investors Group). He is the chairperson for MTS’s SOA Governance Committee, a former president of the Jamaican Association of Manitoba and has organized a youth summer work program for the Jamaican Association.

Renwick is appointed a member of the Management Council for a period of three years effective December 17, 2019.

 

 

Brenda Gunn

Brenda Gunn is an associate professor in the faculty of law for the University of Manitoba as well as an independent consultant, working with local lawyers on international human rights causes and providing litigation support for a constitutional challenge on a treaty rights case. She has a master of laws with a focus on Indigenous peoples law and policy from the University of Arizona, a juris doctor from the University of Toronto and a bachelor of arts with a major in women’s studies and a minor in Native studies. Gunn is a member of the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba and co-chair of the American Society of International Law Indigenous Rights Interest Group.

Brenda has been a member of the Management Council since December 24, 2015. Brenda has been re-appointed a member of Management Council for a period of two years effective December 17, 2019.

 

 

Daljit Kainth

Daljit Kainth is a financial advisor with Coast to Coast Insurance Group and owner of Hair Technique and Spa Natural. He has two masters of science degrees, in computer science and information technology, and also holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics and marketing. Kainth previously served as the vice-president of the India Association of Manitoba, co-ordinator for the Folklorama India Pavilion and member of the Folklorama Steering Committee.

Daljit is appointed a member of the Management Council for a period of three years effective December 17, 2019.

 

 

Dean Scaletta

Dean Scaletta is the director of legal services and the previous director of access, privacy and litigation for Manitoba Public Insurance. He was called to the Manitoba bar in 1982 and has a bachelor of commerce and a bachelor of law from the University of Manitoba. Scaletta has served as the national treasurer and finance committee chair for the Canadian Bar Association, chairperson to the President’s Special Committee on Trust Safety for the Law Society of Manitoba and national treasurer for the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association.

Dean is appointed a member of the Management Council for a period of one year effective December 17, 2019.

 

 

Helga Van Iderstine

Helga Van Iderstine is a partner with MLT Aikins and Aikins MacAulay & Thorvaldson, where she specializes in civil litigation and administrative law, with a particular focus on regulatory issues. She has appeared in all levels of courts in Manitoba, the Supreme Court of Canada and before various regulatory boards including the Manitoba Public Utilities Board and National Energy Board. Van Iderstine was called to the Manitoba bar in 1991 and is a member of the Manitoba Law Society, the Manitoba Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Saskatchewan. She currently serves as a board member to the Manitoba Theatre Centre, corporate secretary to the 2017 Canada Games, trustee to the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law Endowment Fund and chair of the Canada Iceland Foundation Scholarship.

Helga is appointed a member of the Management Council for a period of three years effective December 17, 2019.

 

 

Lisa Settee

Lisa Settee is an experienced board member and a strong business professional. She has served on several government boards and currently sits on the Winnipeg Harvest board where she is a Northern Initiatives committee member. Her business background includes decades of employment within Manitobas private insurance and public education sectors. Lisa holds an Honours Diploma in Teacher Assisting, an Honours Diploma in Casino/Resort/Event Coordination and a Microcomputer Application Programming Diploma. Lisa lives in Northern Manitoba where she has volunteered for many years in the areas of mental health crisis response and Indigenous youth leadership development.

Lisa was appointed a member of Management Council effective January 23, 2014. She continues to hold office in accordance with s.5(3) of The Legal Aid Manitoba Act.
