Legal Aid Manitoba (LAM)

Environment & Pay

Office Environment

Each Legal Aid Manitoba (LAM) office is a complete unit. Articling students typically have their own office and share the services of a secretary and other support staff.

Articling students are provided with a computer workstation, which allows access to our LAM Application System, internet, e-mail and computer research facilities.

LAM currently subscribes to WestlawNext Canada legal research services. Each office also has a small, fairly specialized library for doing basic research.

Compensation

Salary

The salary for articling positions with LAM is $35,000 per year.

Education

We reimburse articling students for the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education program fees (not including the Call to the Bar fee).

Remoteness Allowance

Articling students with the northern offices will receive the same basic salary, as well as a remoteness allowance as set by the Province of Manitoba Civil Service Commission.

Mileage, Parking and Transit

LAM pays mileage and parking expenses for those students who use their private vehicles in their work and bus passes for those students who use public transit.
